Minor Capital Projects—typically under $1M—help the university upgrade, adapt, and improve learning, research, administrative, and outdoor environments. From classroom refreshes to infrastructure upgrades, these projects strengthen the campus experience and uphold long-term stewardship of university facilities.
Our Role
Facilities Management is your central partner for delivering minor capital improvements. We:
- Guide campus units from initial concept through project completion
- Ensure designs meet UC policies, codes, and safety requirements
- Coordinate reviews with key partners such as FABS, Space and Capital Planning, and Contracts
- Provide project management, estimating, scheduling, quality control, and design standards

Projects may include
- Interior renovations or space reconfigurations
- Classroom, office, lab, or student space improvements
- Mechanical, electrical, or plumbing modifications
- Accessibility or life-safety upgrades
- Small-scale infrastructure or building system improvements
Planning Process
All projects follow a clear, reliable pathway:
- Initiation & Planning
- Define needs, scope, budget, and timing.
- Design & Documentation
- Architects, engineers, and reviewers ensure the project meets standards, codes, and functional needs.
- Construction & Execution
- Facilities coordinate with contractors and internal teams to deliver safe, timely work.
- Close-Out & Occupancy
- Final inspections, documentation, and turnover prepare your space for use.
