Mail Service Types

Certified Mail

Certified mail provides a receipt to the sender and a record of delivery at the office of the address. This service does not reimburse for loss or damage.

Express Mail

Express mail is overnight to most locations. Mail must be received by Mail Services by 1:00 pm for same-day processing.

First-Class Mail

First-class mail is the most common. Plan on five to seven business days for local delivery or seven to ten business days for out-of-state mail.

Insured Mail

The sender may obtain payment for loss, rifling, or damage. Coverage may not exceed $5,000. Mail Services has the appropriate forms available.

Media Mail

Used for sending books, films, manuscripts, sound recordings, videotapes, and computer-readable media such as CDs and DVDs. Pricing is based on weight and is typically lower than First-Class Mail.

Registered Mail

This is the safest and most secure mail class. Each person who handles the item must sign for it.

Return Receipts

A return receipt provides proof of delivery. It is signed upon delivery and returned to the sender. Commonly used with Certified Mail.

Note: Mail Services has most of the appropriate forms for these special services.
